Choose the Right Rail Length
The following panel counts are approximate and assume modules measuring approximately 45 inches wide installed in portrait orientation.
| Rail Length | Approximate Portrait Capacity | Delivery Options |
| 92.5 inches | 2 panels per rail | Standard parcel shipping or pickup |
| 140 inches | 3 panels per rail | Freight carrier or pickup |
| 185 inches | 4 panels per rail | Freight carrier or pickup |
Panel capacity is approximate. Confirm the actual module width and allow sufficient space for mid clamps, end clamps and the required rail overhang before ordering.
The panel quantities above describe how many portrait-oriented modules will fit along one rail. A typical portrait installation uses two parallel rails supporting each row of panels.
For example, a typical row of two portrait panels will normally require two 92.5-inch rails, along with the appropriate roof attachments, mid clamps and end clamps.
Shipping and Pickup Options
The 92.5-inch rail can be shipped using standard parcel services to many Canadian addresses. Because of its oversized length, additional shipping charges may apply and the rail does not qualify for free shipping.
The 140-inch and 185-inch rails are too long for standard parcel services and must be shipped by a freight carrier. Contact us before ordering if you would like a freight quote or need help coordinating delivery.
Avoid rail shipping and freight charges by arranging pickup from one of our available Canadian locations:
- Surrey, British Columbia
- Delta, British Columbia
- Calgary, Alberta
- Edmonton, Alberta
- Stratford, Ontario
- Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Inventory and pickup availability vary by location. Please contact us in advance so we can confirm stock and make the necessary pickup arrangements.
Integrated K-Rack Compatibility
The Rapid 1 Rail uses side attachment and works with Kinetic L-brackets, Standing-L seam clamps and other compatible Kinetic roof mounts. Its profile also accepts Kinetic mid clamps, end clamps, rail joiners, microinverter mounts and cable-management accessories.
The complete K-Rack system has been evaluated to UL 2703 for grounding, bonding and mechanical loading. Module bonding is achieved through approved Kinetic bonding mid clamps when the system is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Because these rails have a mill finish, compatible Kinetic M-Type or A-Type bonding components may be used. The rail must still be connected to the equipment-grounding system using the appropriate Kinetic grounding lug and conductor.
Use the Kinetic KLB3-M L-Bracket to connect the Rapid 1 Rail to a compatible flashed roof mount, hanger bolt or mounting foot.
Built-In Cable Management
The Rapid 1 profile includes an integrated cable-management channel that can secure up to two compatible solar cables. Simply press the cables into the retaining grooves along the required section of rail.
Additional Kinetic cable raceways and rail-locking cable ties can also be used when more cable capacity or additional support is required.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many rails do I need?
A typical portrait installation uses two parallel rails for each row of panels. This means a two-panel portrait row will normally require two 92.5-inch rails, while a four-panel portrait row will normally require two 185-inch rails.
Some module or engineered racking configurations may require a different number or placement of rails. Always follow the module-manufacturer clamping zones and the engineered racking design.
How accurate are the suggested panel counts?
The estimates are based on panels measuring approximately 45 inches wide. Actual module dimensions vary, and the layout must also allow space for mid clamps, end clamps and suitable rail overhang.
Check the exact panel width before selecting a rail length. Contact us if you would like help confirming the fit.
Can I connect multiple rail lengths together?
YES! Use a Kinetic Rapid 1 Rail Joiner to connect two rail sections. The joiner installs in the side channel and is centred across the joint, keeping the adjoining rails securely aligned.
Rail joiners are particularly useful when building longer panel rows or when rails have been cut into shorter sections for easier transportation. The KJS2-MM joiner is designed for mill-finish Kinetic rails and supports the system's bonding path when installed according to the K-Rack instructions.
Tighten the joiner fasteners to the Kinetic specification of 12 ft-lb (16.3 N-m).
Can the rails be cut to length?
Yes. This aluminum racking rail can be easily field-cut when required. General tools like circular saws, reciprocating saws, or handheld hacksaws can all be used.
Use tools suitable for aluminum, and be sure to file/clean any sharp edges to protect yourself, your panels, and your wiring.
How are the panels electrically bonded?
Approved Kinetic bonding mid clamps use integrated bonding hardware to electrically bond compatible module frames to the mill-finish racking rail. The rails must then be grounded using the appropriate Kinetic grounding lug and grounding conductor.
The complete bonding path depends on using the specified Kinetic components and following the manufacturer's installation requirements.
How far can the rail span between roof attachments?
The K-Rack installation guide provides evaluated design loads using a maximum attachment span of 48 inches. The allowable spacing for a specific installation still depends on wind loads, snow loads, roof slope, building height, array location and other structural conditions.
For most installations ~36" is suitable, but will vary depending on your roof construction, pitch, snow & wind loading, and location.
Please contact us if you'd like help determining a recommended spacing.
Which roof attachments are compatible?
The Rapid 1 Rail works with Kinetic L-brackets, Standing-L seam clamps and other compatible Kinetic mounting products. The correct attachment depends on whether the roof uses asphalt shingles, standing-seam metal, exposed-fastener metal or another construction.
Can the Rail ship by regular carrier?
Yes & No.
The 92.5-inch rail can be shipped through standard parcel services to many Canadian addresses. Oversize shipping charges may apply, and the rail does not qualify for free shipping.
Longer sizes will need to be sent via freight delivery. Please contact us if you need an estimate on freight charges. Please note we can bundle with a panel delivery to save time and money.
How are the longer rails shipped?
The 140-inch and 185-inch rails must travel by freight carrier because they exceed standard parcel-service length limits. Contact us for a freight quote before ordering.
Pickup can also be arranged in Surrey, Calgary, Edmonton, Stratford or Dartmouth to avoid freight charges. Inventory and pickup arrangements must be confirmed in advance.
What warranty does this product include?
Kinetic Solar backs its K-Rack products with a 20-year limited manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Warranty coverage requires installation in accordance with Kinetic Solar's written instructions and engineering specifications.
The warranty applies to the Kinetic product itself and does not extend to related roofing materials, solar modules, wiring or other equipment.
