A dependable, Canadian-made foundation for your rooftop solar array. The Kinetic Solar KVLM-4S-MM Universal L Mount combines an aluminum mounting foot, pre-installed butyl gasket and rail attachment hardware in one convenient kit.
This version includes one 4-inch Kinetic self-drilling screw for attachment into suitable roof framing. Designed for compatible shingle and metal roofs, it pairs with Kinetic Rapid 1 rails to help create a straightforward, durable rooftop mounting system.

The factory-applied butyl gasket seals beneath the mounting foot when correctly installed. A retaining lip helps prevent the butyl from spreading away from the fastener, keeping the sealing material where it is needed.

The KVLM-4S-MM single-screw kit is intended for attachment into suitable roof framing. If your layout needs more flexibility in mount placement, consider the Roof Tech RT Mini II butyl-sealed mount, which supports approved rafter and decking attachment configurations. Use it with a compatible Kinetic L-bracket and follow Roof Tech’s required screw configuration.

Does this mounting foot work with Kinetic Rapid 1 rails?
Yes. The Universal L Mount works with compatible Kinetic racking, including the Rapid 1 rails we carry. The kit includes pre-installed rail attachment hardware; rails, panel clamps and other array components are purchased separately.
Can I install this version into roof decking alone?
The KVLM-4S-MM single-screw kit is identified by Kinetic for truss attachment. Its included screw must engage suitable structural roof framing beneath the roof covering.
For a mount with an approved decking attachment option, consider the Roof Tech RT Mini II. Follow its installation instructions for the required fasteners and roof construction.
How does the butyl gasket seal against the roof?
The pre-installed butyl compresses beneath the mounting foot to help seal the roof penetration. A retaining lip helps keep the gasket around the fastening area. Remove the protective backing before final placement.
For shingles, Kinetic’s installation guide specifies placement on an individual shingle with a flat, even surface within approximately 1.6 mm (1/16 inch). Avoid shingle cut-outs and butt edges. Follow the current instructions for your mount and roof, including any additional sealant requirements.
How many mounting feet do I need?
The quantity depends on your rail lengths, roof framing and required attachment spacing. Wind and snow loads, roof slope and array placement all affect the mounting layout.
Determine the approved spacing for your project, then count the attachment locations along each rail. Mounting-foot spacing and rail placement must follow the applicable Kinetic engineering and solar-panel mounting requirements.
Can I order the two-screw version?
Yes! The similar KVLM-4-MM is available by special order. It includes two 5/16-inch × 4-inch lag bolts, compared with the single 4-inch self-drilling screw supplied with the KVLM-4S-MM listed here.
