Victron Battery Balancer for 24V & 48V Battery Banks
The Victron Battery Balancer helps keep series-connected 12V batteries at a similar state of charge. It monitors the midpoint of a 24V battery bank and draws up to 0.7A from the higher-voltage battery during charging, helping the two batteries gradually converge.
Use one balancer with two 12V batteries in a 24V bank. A 48V bank built from four series-connected 12V batteries requires three Battery Balancers.
- Helps keep series-connected 12V batteries balanced
- Supports 24V banks and expandable 48V configurations
- Up to 0.7A of automatic balancing current
- LED indicators show operation, balancing and alarm status
- Built-in alarm relay can signal excessive midpoint deviation
Our series-capable 12V LiFePO₄ batteries can be combined into higher-voltage banks. Always use matching batteries of the same model, capacity, age and state of charge, and fully charge each battery before connecting the bank.
- Two 12V batteries connected in series for a 24V bank
- Four 12V batteries connected in series for a 48V bank
- RV, marine and off-grid battery systems
- Series-parallel battery banks
- Backup-power and mobile equipment systems
The Victron Battery Balancer manages voltage differences between complete 12V batteries connected in series. It does not balance the individual cells inside a lithium battery and does not replace the battery’s internal BMS.

How many Battery Balancers do I need?
This depends on the voltage of your bank, and how many batteries you are using.
24V - Use one Battery Balancer for two 12V batteries connected in series as a 24V bank.
48V - You need 3 balancers to properly balance between the 4 series connected batteries.
*Please note that these are not suitable for balancing 2x24V batteries in series*
Can it be used with LiFePO₄ batteries?
YES. It balances the voltage between complete 12V batteries rather than the cells inside them. Confirm that the batteries are approved for series use, use matching batteries, and follow both the battery and Victron installation instructions.
Each lithium battery must retain its own internal BMS. The Battery Balancer supplements the individual battery protection; it does not replace it.
Why do I want a battery balancer?
Batteries connected in series can gradually drift apart in voltage and state of charge. One battery may become overcharged while another remains undercharged, reducing available capacity and potentially shortening the life of the entire bank.
With Lithium batteries this can lead to BMS protections activating (usually when charging), causing undesirable behavior in the system.
The Victron Battery Balancer monitors the midpoint of the series bank and draws a small balancing current from the higher-voltage battery during charging. This helps the batteries converge toward a similar state of charge and provides an alarm if the voltage difference becomes excessive.
A balancer helps maintain a healthy, properly matched bank, but it cannot repair a damaged battery or compensate for severely mismatched batteries.
Does this work with AGM or lead-acid batteries?
Yes. The Victron Battery Balancer is well suited to series-connected lead-acid battery banks, including AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries.
For best results, use batteries of the same type, model, capacity, age and state of charge. New batteries should be individually charged and verified before being connected in series.
Do I need fuses on the Battery Balancer leads?
Victron specifies using at least 0.75mm² wire for the positive, negative and midpoint connections. Where UL compliance is required, Victron also specifies protecting the balancer leads near the batteries with 10A DC-rated fuses.
Even when UL compliance is not required, protecting small wires connected directly to a battery is good installation practice. We recommend using inline ATC/ATO fuse holders with 10A ATC fuses, installed as close as practical to the battery connections. Follow the wiring arrangement shown in the Victron manual.
