To get from the solar panels on your roof, to inside the building where your inverter(s) & batteries are installed, you have two choices. Run conduit/cables across the roof and down the side of the building, or cleanly route them down through the roof.

The Soladeck products make penetrating the roof with your cables a leak-free and professional experience.

Mount the box, run the cables from your PV panels (or microinverters), and use the Soladeck as a junction box to transition to more traditional wiring methods (or as required by your local codes).

Can this be used for both AC and DC wiring?

Yes. The SolaDeck 0599-B is rated for 600 VDC and 240 VAC, so it can be used for DC solar panel wiring or for AC wiring in AC-coupled systems such as rooftop microinverters.

Do I need to use the DIN rail?

No. The 35mm DIN rail is simply a convenient value-add if you want to mount compatible terminal strips or fuse holders. The box also works perfectly well as a straightforward roof penetration and junction enclosure without using the rail.
