Simplified Solar Mounting for Standing-Seam Roofs

The Kinetic Solar Large Standing Seam Clamp (KHSL-M-L) provides a secure, non-penetrating attachment point for mounting compatible Kinetic Solar rails on standing-seam metal roofs. Its larger clamp profile accommodates compatible standing seams up to 1 inch wide at the top.

Its integrated Standing-L design performs the job normally handled by a separate roof-mounting foot and L-bracket. This reduces the number of components, connections and installation steps required at each attachment point.

Non-Penetrating Roof Attachment

The KHSL-M-L mechanically clamps onto the raised standing seam without drilling holes or installing screws through the roof panel. For compatible standing-seam roofs, this provides a clean solar mounting solution while avoiding the additional roof penetrations associated with conventional mounting feet.

Why You'll Love It

  • Non-penetrating attachment for standing-seam metal roofs
  • No drilling or fasteners through the roof panel
  • Replaces a separate mounting foot and L-bracket combination
  • Reduces component count at each attachment point
  • Fewer connections help simplify installation
  • Accommodates standing-seam profiles up to 1 inch wide at the top
  • Includes the hardware required to attach a compatible Kinetic rail
  • Designed for use with Kinetic Solar racking products
  • Mill-finish aluminum construction

One Component Replaces Two

A conventional solar rail attachment commonly requires both a roof-mounting foot and a separate L-bracket. The KHSL-M-L combines the roof clamp and vertical rail-attachment point into one compact assembly.

This integrated design reduces the number of individual components that need to be ordered, handled and installed. It also eliminates the separate connection normally required between the mounting foot and L-bracket.

Designed for Kinetic Solar Rails

The clamp includes the Kinetic rail-attachment hardware required to connect compatible Kinetic Solar racking, including the commonly used Rapid 1 rail. Once secured to the standing seam, the rail attaches directly to the integrated vertical mounting surface.

The number and spacing of clamps must be determined according to the racking design, roof construction, seam capacity, array dimensions, and local wind and snow loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this clamp require holes in the roof?

No. The KHSL-M-L mechanically clamps onto the raised standing seam without drilling holes or driving fasteners through the metal roof panel.

The roof profile and seam construction must be compatible with this mounting method, and the roof manufacturer should permit the attachment of mechanical seam clamps.

How does it reduce the number of racking components?

The clamp combines the functions of a standalone roof-mounting foot and an L-bracket. A compatible Kinetic rail attaches directly to the integrated vertical portion of the clamp, eliminating a separate foot, L-bracket and the connection between them.

Which roof types is it designed for?

The KHSL-M-L is designed specifically for compatible standing-seam metal roofs. It is not intended for corrugated metal panels, exposed-fastener roofing, asphalt shingles or other roof types without a suitable standing seam.

Will it fit every standing-seam profile?

No single seam clamp fits every standing-seam profile. The KHSL-M-L is the larger Kinetic Standing L and accommodates compatible seams measuring up to 1 inch wide at the top.

Confirm the seam dimensions, shape and roof-manufacturer requirements before installation. The smaller KHSL-M is intended for compatible seams up to 3/4 inch wide.

Which solar rails can be attached?

The KHSL-M-L is designed for compatible Kinetic Solar racking rails, including the Rapid 1 rail. The clamp includes the Kinetic attachment hardware needed to secure the rail to its integrated mounting point.

Can solar panels mount directly to the clamp?

No. The KHSL-M-L attaches the solar racking rail to the roof seam. The solar modules are then mounted to the rail using compatible Kinetic mid clamps and end clamps.

How many clamps will my installation require?

The required quantity and spacing depend on the racking layout, rail spans, roof-seam capacity, array size, building location, and applicable wind and snow loads. Follow the engineered racking design rather than using a fixed number of clamps per panel.

Does the clamp provide electrical bonding?

The KHSL-M-L is primarily a structural roof attachment and should not be assumed to complete the array's electrical bonding path. Use the appropriate Kinetic bonding mid clamps, bonding hardware and grounding lug required by the system design.

Will the clamp damage the roof seam?

The clamp is designed to grip a compatible standing seam without penetrating the roof panel. Correct positioning and tightening are important to prevent seam deformation or an insecure attachment.

Confirm compatibility with the roof manufacturer and follow the applicable Kinetic installation and engineering requirements.

Not Sure Whether Your Roof Seam Is Compatible?

Send us the seam dimensions and a clear photo or profile drawing. We can help determine whether the KHSL-M-L is appropriate and identify the other Kinetic Solar racking components required for your array.
