32A Solar Breaker Box Kit
A roomier solar disconnect kit with cleaner wiring and a more practical mounting system. The LQX-C3B1PG combines a 32A, 2-pole, 500V DC miniature circuit breaker with a larger IP66-rated enclosure, four pre-installed cable glands and a clearly labelled wiring faceplate.
It uses the same breaker as our compact solar breaker kit, with more room for routing and terminating your PV cables. An external metal mounting hanger lets you secure the enclosure without driving mounting screws through the housing, helping preserve its weather-resistant seal.
- More wiring space — larger housing makes cable routing and terminal access easier
- IP66 enclosure — protects against dust and powerful water jets when correctly assembled
- External metal hanger — mount without penetrating the enclosure with screws
- Four individual cable glands — one conductor per gland for a tidy, individually sealed installation
- Clearly labelled faceplate — helps identify connections and reduce wiring confusion
- Direct cable connections — no pre-installed MC4 whips or additional inline connector pairs
Run your PV cables through the glands and connect them directly to the breaker terminals. This kit comes without pre-installed MC4 cable whips, eliminating the additional inline connector pairs those whips would require. Fewer connection points means fewer places for poor crimps, mismatched connectors or loose connections to cause trouble.
Installed between a compatible solar array and charge controller or inverter PV input, this kit provides an accessible ON/OFF isolation point. It makes shutdowns, troubleshooting and servicing easier without repeatedly disturbing cable terminals or unplugging solar connectors.
The two poles operate together to disconnect the positive and negative conductors of one PV circuit. The breaker also provides overcurrent protection when correctly selected for the circuit, conductors and installation conditions.
The larger enclosure gives you additional space to arrange conductors and reach the breaker terminals. Four pre-installed glands provide separate entries for the incoming positive and negative cables and the outgoing positive and negative cables.
Each gland seals around one cable jacket. The labelled faceplate helps you identify the intended connections while wiring, making the installation easier to follow and inspect.
The included external metal hanger provides a mounting point outside the sealed enclosure. This avoids the additional housing penetrations required by mounting screws driven through the back of the box and helps preserve the enclosure’s IP66 protection.
Use one suitably sized cable per gland, tighten each gland around the cable jacket and ensure the cover seal is clean and properly seated. IP66 protection depends on correct installation and closure. A sheltered mounting location can also help extend service life.
- PV isolation between a solar array and compatible charge controller
- Solar disconnects for compatible inverter PV inputs

Switching this breaker OFF isolates the downstream circuit, but the cables and terminals on the solar-array side can remain energized whenever the panels are exposed to light.
Before opening the enclosure or working on wiring, safely isolate all relevant sources and verify the absence of voltage. Do not unplug MC4 connectors under load. Follow the equipment shutdown procedure and appropriate electrical safety practices.
How is this different from your compact 32A solar breaker kit?
It uses the same 32A, 2-pole, 500V DC breaker, but adds a larger IP66-rated housing, four individual pre-installed cable glands, an external metal mounting hanger and a clearly labelled faceplate.
The larger housing provides more wiring space, while the hanger lets you mount the box without adding screw penetrations through the enclosure.
Why doesn’t this kit include MC4 cable whips?
Direct wiring lets you bring your own PV cables through the glands and terminate them at the breaker. This avoids the extra inline connector pairs needed for pre-installed MC4 whips.
Removing those extra connections reduces potential connection problems and lets you choose cable lengths suited to your installation. Correct cable sizing, terminal tightening and gland sealing are still essential.
How are the four cable glands used?
For a typical single-array installation, the four glands accommodate the incoming positive and negative conductors and the outgoing positive and negative conductors—one wire per gland.
Follow the faceplate identification and breaker wiring diagram. Each gland must seal around the cable’s outer jacket, and the cable diameter must fall within the gland’s specified sealing range.
Can I use the two poles for two separate solar arrays?
This listing is intended for switching the positive and negative conductors of one PV circuit together. The 500V DC rating applies to the specified two-pole wiring configuration; it should not be assumed to apply to each pole independently.
For separate arrays or separate MPPT inputs, use a correctly rated disconnect for each circuit unless the manufacturer explicitly approves another configuration.
Is it suitable for outdoor installation?
The enclosure is IP66-rated, providing protection against dust and powerful water jets when correctly installed and closed. The external mounting hanger avoids additional screw holes through the housing.
Keep the cover seal properly seated and tighten all cable glands around suitably sized cable jackets. IP66 does not mean the enclosure is suitable for submersion.
Do I disconnect solar or the battery first?
Many charge controllers specify disconnecting PV before disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting the battery before PV. Follow the shutdown and startup sequence in your controller or inverter manual.
This breaker provides a convenient PV switching point, but switching it OFF does not remove voltage from the incoming array-side wiring.
Does this replace a solar surge protector?
No. A miniature circuit breaker provides overcurrent protection and switching within its ratings. It does not regulate PV voltage or replace a surge protective device.
The array’s maximum open-circuit voltage, including its cold-weather increase, must remain within the ratings of the breaker and connected equipment.
Is the breaker replaceable?
Yes. It uses a standard two-module DIN-rail format. Any replacement must fit the enclosure and be suitable for the circuit’s DC voltage, current, interrupting capacity and required wiring configuration.
Changing the breaker rating also requires checking conductor sizing and the rest of the installation.
