Sapphire Energy 40A MPPT Solar Charge Controller
The Sapphire Energy MC4010 is a compact, high-efficiency 40A MPPT solar charge controller designed for 12V and 24V battery systems. It is a strong fit for vans, RVs, trailers, boats, sheds, and small off-grid cabins where you want dependable solar charging, flexible panel sizing, and built-in Bluetooth monitoring.
With support for up to 520W (12V batteries) or 1040W (24V batteries), the MC4010 gives you lots of solar charging, in a relatively small footprint. MPPT charging helps recover more usable energy in changing weather, cool temperatures, and partial shade.
The MC4010 combines efficient MPPT charging, app-based monitoring, programmable load control, and a rugged finned aluminum chassis in one compact controller.

Installation Notes
The MC4010 supports both 12V and 24V systems, with auto-detection or manual selection. Keep your solar array within the 100V Voc limit, using cold-weather voltage calculations and allowing reasonable design margin.
Slight over-paneling can improve energy harvest in cloudy or low-light conditions, but output current will still be limited to 40A. If your system is smaller and does not need Bluetooth monitoring, the MC2010 20A controller is a more compact lower-output option in the same series.
Mount the controller in a dry, ventilated location with airflow around the heatsink. Use proper fusing and appropriately sized wiring to minimize voltage drop.
When using multiple controllers on the same battery bank, each controller should have its own separate solar array and its own battery-side protection. Do not connect multiple controllers to a shared solar panel.
Planning to mount the controller in a cabinet, compartment, or other hard-to-reach location? The optional remote LCD screen lets you keep charging data and programming access visible and accessible from a more convenient spot.
Proper fusing protects your wiring and connected equipment. Install a fuse on the positive conductor as close to the battery or busbar as practical.
The MC4010 is the better fit for larger systems and buyers who want Bluetooth monitoring. For smaller arrays and lighter-duty charging needs, take a look at the MC2010 20A model.
Frequently Asked
Is this compatible with LiFePO4 batteries?
Yes. The MC4010 supports LiFePO4 charging profiles as well as AGM, Lead, and customer user settings.
Does this have Bluetooth?
Yes. The MC4010 includes built-in Bluetooth for app-based monitoring and setup, along with RS485 communication for integration and expanded monitoring options.
The app is a free download, and can be found on our downloads page.
How much solar can I connect?
The MC4010 supports up to 520W on a 12V system or 1040W on a 24V system. You can 'overpanel' past this limitation to increase cloudy/shady production, but you must always ensure your panel voltage remains below 100V Voc, especially in cold weather.
What is the remote LCD screen for?
The optional remote LCD screen is useful when the controller is mounted out of reach, but you still want charging data and programming access in a more visible location.
What is the difference between the MC4010 and MC2010?
The MC4010 is rated for 40A and supports roughly double the solar wattage of the MC2010. It also adds built-in Bluetooth, making it the better choice for larger systems or for users who want app-based monitoring.
Can I connect more than one panel?
Absolutely!
You can connect multiple panels in series or parallel. As long as the total solar array stays within the controller’s power and voltage limits. The important limit to watch is maximum cold-weather Voc, which must remain below 100V. If you need help, feel free to contact us.
